Leather

Products made of leather were popularised in1940s and 1950s by Hollywood stars and were worn ever since. But in the new century, some controversies showed. People started to wonder if wearing leather is morally wrong. Turnes out that most leather comes from India and China where cows are awfully treated. Cows' tails are broken and eyes are rubbed in tabacco and chili to get them to move. Those poor animals have to travel many kilometers before they get to the slaughter. It is torture for them. And every year over a billion animals are killed for their skin. And it is not only cows who suffer. Production of leather also affects the health of the workers (they have contact with many chemicals). To minimalize it, we should stop buying leather or replace it with artificial leather. Many companies produce it from natural substances (I even heard about a company that makes pineapple leather). We should also protest and spread knowledge about producing this material. It is very important because we might help those animals.

  1. Are you sure you're talking about cows in India? A cow is a sacred animal in Hinduism so they can hardly be mistreated in a country with almost 1 billion Hindus.

    1. I was very suprised too, but apparently it is legal in some of India's states. That is why cows have to travel hundred of kilometers to get to the slaughter.
