Animal trade

    To know how to stop animal trade we have to be aware of what it is and how it is done. In short words, it is a sale of a wild animal (alive or dead) or its part. 

    Many people own a pet. Usually, it is a cat or a dog. But some people buy more unusual animals like parrots, snakes, or lizards. Unfortunately, when people buy an exotic animal they don't think about the way of transporting them.

    Not all of us know how foreign animals are captured and transported. It is terrifying and cruel. First of all, animals are captured and taken away from their homes (natural environment). It is a huge amount of stress for them already. Then they are killed to produce medicine or souvenir, wounded to get a valuable part of them, or smuggled on planes. If they go to the plane they will have to go through a lot. Dealers rope parrots legs and beaks and then hide them in plastic tubes. Turtles are taped in a way that won't let them get out of the shell and then they are hidden in socks. Baby snakes are transported in CDs cases. None of the animals have water or food. If the animals live long enough to be bought (which is about 10%-20% of a chance) they will probably die because of unawareness of the new owner regarding care. 

How to stop animal trade? To stop this phenomenon we shouldn't buy animals like parrots, turtles, or snakes. If we won't buy them sellers won't need to refill them with new ones. Being abroad, we shouldn't buy souvenirs made of animals (like necklaces with teeth, a belt made of animal skin, or medicine made of animals).  We also should educate ourselves and others.

    Only yesterday I heard a story form one of the first-graders about his exotic turtle that escaped from the house to the garden and couldn't be found. Education is needed!

While I understand that all of those limits imposed on Russia are meant to end the war as fast as possible I keep thinking about a common person from Russia facing them.                   The artic le which I have just read was written by Nicholas R. Longrich and is an answer for reader’s question about humans future.                 The author of this text presents his speculations about our future evolution. I can fully agree that our life expectancy will expand through the time. As we invent more medications and cure more diseases we can expect to live longer. John Keats's poems of death and los youth

  Recently I read an article titled "John Keats: how his poems of death and lost youth are resonating during COVID-19" by Richard Marggraf-Turley. The text was mainly about the life and works of this artist, but a lot can be concluded from it. Keats, practically all his life, was a witness of death, mental illnesses, and suffering. He reflected it in his works. And even after 200 years, they are more current than ever. Everybody can now experience emotions about which John Keats wrote. In times of pandemic, especially people my age, are losing their youth and time to experience new things. Quarantine also isn't a stranger to us and the poet.  I think that we can agree with Keats that it is affecting us in a bad way. We, as he said in his letters, are feeling depressed.
