Water waste

Water is a really important part of our lives. We are mostly made of it and without it, we could die very quickly. Unfortunately, not all of us know that Earth in 71% is covered by water. and 96.5% of this water is salty. Fresh water that we can drink is only 3.5% and 68% of it is trapped in glaciers. Adding the fact that we waste a lot of this fluid there is not much left for us (about 1%).

We aren't the only specie that needs water to live. Ther are also loads of plants animals which need it. We are a part of an ecosystem, so when we take water from other species it disrupts it (and causes food security). Another important problem is that when we need to supplement water from the underground and water from there doesn't regenerate as fast as we extract it.  It also needs a lot of money, energy, and time to make water drinkable. Some steps of this process produce by-products that go to the atmosphere and cause Earth's rising temperature.

We can help to stop water wasting at our own houses. First of all, we should do things like turning off the tap while washing our teeth or face, taking short showers, reusing our boiling water to water our plants (it has to be cooled first), or running our dishwashers only when they are full. But we also can thrift our clothes, because it takes thousands of liters to produce a single piece of clothing.

We have to remember that when we don't waste water we also help ourselves.

  1. We can recycle rain water too, which is happening in more and more places.
"thrift our clothes"? Do you mean wearing them longer than a few seasons or washing them less frequently?

    1. By thrifting, I meant buying things that are good quality and that we can wear more than one season or buying clothes at second-hand.
